Carl Mannasseh Prentice

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for Dr. Carl M. Prentice, 54, local veterinarian and sportsman, who died suddenly last Friday afternoon in his car on the South Ridge near the Hackenburg residence. The Rev. W.D. Pearce conducted the service at the Fiser Funeral Home. Dr. Prentice with Tom Skilliter and two of the latter's sons had gone hunting. The doctor had got out of the car to take a shot at a hawk they saw sailing overhead. Missing the bird the first time, he took a second shot, then went back into the car and slumped over, unconscious. The coroner was called and pronounced the death due to angina pectoris. Funeral arrangements were delayed several days as the family tried through the Red Cross to get the only son Cpl. Harold Prentice home from the Hawaiian Islands. Carl Mannasseh Prentice was a son of Dr. Henry Prentice and his wife Amelia (White) Prentice. He was born August 7, 1890 on the Teemes Road between Vickery and Castalia and was educated at the Teemes school, Margaret ta High School and Ohio State University, completing a course in veterinary medicine there in 1912. On September 12, 1912 he was married to Ethel Hess of near Whitmore and they came to Clyde where their entire married life has been spent.Dr. Prentice established his veterinary business and hospital near his home and soon developed a flourishing practice. A great sportsman and hunter he spent all his leisure time at these sports. Although he had been in failing health for the past six months. He had been able to be around taking care of business. He was a member of the Eagles and of the State Veterinary Association and had belonged to the ROTC while attending the University. He is survived by his widow, the one son Cpl. Harold W. Prentice, on daughter, Pauline the wife of Wayne Kistler, and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Dalzell of Duane Street, Clyde and Mrs. Eulala Leach of Cleveland, and by the daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Kistler.
