Privacy Policy

PrenticeNet Privacy Policy - updated 17 July 2011

At PrenticeNet, we take your privacy seriously. This privacy policy explains what type of information is collected from you when you visit our Web site and how that information may be used.

Collection of Information

PrenticeNet collects personal information (such as your name, email address, street address, and/or telephone number) through our Web site only if you choose to provide that information to us.

PrenticeNet asks you to provide certain personal information when you register as a user of the Web site, which is required in order to post information or contact another website user. The only information required to register with the Web site is your name and email address; other information is optional and can be provided at your discretion. This information is used for the following purposes:

  • To differentiate users from one another and provide an individualized browsing experience for frequent visitors.
  • To provide easy access to password protected areas of the Web site.

Your name and email address is also collected when you send an email, or fill out the contact form, in order to contact PrenticeNet.

Like all Web servers, the PrenticeNet Web server automatically creates log files for each visitor who accesses our sites. These "access logs" allow us to make our site more useful to our visitors and to track possible abuse. The access logs do NOT record your name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, or any other personal information. Rather, they contain some or all of the following information:

  • The Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) of the machine which accessed our Web site.
  • The date and time of the visit.
  • The browser being used (which usually includes information about the operating system and version).
  • A list of files downloaded or viewed.
  • Any errors encountered.

Any time you are "logged on" to the Web site your PrenticeNet username (and thus any personal information provided to PrenticeNet) can be associated with the data listed above. If this is a concern, you should only login as needed to access password-protected areas.

Cookies

PrenticeNet uses "cookies" to allow a user to remain logged in from page to page and to provide a customized interface that enhances the user's browsing experience. If acceptance of cookies is not enabled in your browser, you may be unable to access certain areas of the Web site.

A cookie is a string of characters that is written to a file on your hard drive when you visit a Web site. Only the Web site that created the cookie can read it, and it can only be used as a record keeping device to store information that the site already has. It cannot, for example, be used to read other information from your hard drive.

Use of Information

The use of personal information is limited to the following: responding to emails; sending communications, including possible marketing and promotional communications; other internal PrenticeNet purposes; and other purposes that will be specified at the time the information is collected.

You will be informed at the time of collection of any information that could become publicly available, and will have the opportunity to cancel such submittals.

Personal information collected by PrenticeNet is NEVER provided to outside parties without prior consent of the individual, except under the following conditions: PrenticeNet may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or if it believes that such action is necessary to (a) comply with the law or with legal process, (b) protect against misuse or unauthorized use of the PrenticeNet Web site, or (c) protect the personal safety or property of PrenticeNet Web site users, the public or PrenticeNet and its officers or employees.

Security

PrenticeNet has in place what we believe to be appropriate physical, electronic, and personnel procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Credit card information is currently handled solely by PayPal, Inc., and is NOT collected or stored by PrenticeNet. A password of your choosing is required to access your personal information provided to the PrenticeNet Web site. Any time your personal information is modified, an email is sent to you (in the case of a modification to the email address, an email is sent to both the old and new addresses).

Corrections to Personal Data

Modifications to your personal data can be made by visiting the Member Administration area (www.prenticenet.com/pnet/members). Please contact PrenticeNet directly to delete a username (and all related data) from the database.
PLEASE NOTE: It may be impossible to completely delete all personal information because of backups and records of deletions.

Acceptance of Privacy Policy Terms

PrenticeNet reserves the right to change this policy. Any changes to this policy will be posted to this page as soon as reasonably possible, so feel free to check this page periodically. Use of the PrenticeNet Web site constitutes consent to any policy then in effect. Please make sure that you read the PrenticeNet Website Terms of Use to understand additional terms and conditions which apply to the use of our Web site.

It is important to note that the PrenticeNet Web site contains links to other sites that may not follow the same privacy policies. These sites may use cookies, collect data, and use the data in ways that PrenticeNet would not. PrenticeNet is not responsible for the privacy practices or any information or materials on these other sites. Please visit these sites if you wish to review their privacy policies.
