Dr. Henry Nelson Prentice

Dr. Henry N. Prentice, father of C.M. Prentice, Mrs Arthur Dalzell and Mrs. E. Leach of this village , passed away at providence Hospital, Sandusky, Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock. Dr Prentice had been in ill health for more than three years, and had been at the hospital for 12 days.Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon from the Frye Funeral parlors in Sandusky at 2:30. The Rev. c.H. Wiederkehr of the Church will be in charge and burial will be made on the family lot in Castalia cemetery. Henry Prentice, son of Mannasseh and Wealthy (Barnes) Prentice, was born near Venice, Ohio on Sep 21, 1855. He attended schools in that vicinity and when a young man was sent to a veterinary college in Toronto, Canada, where he studied and graduated, working as a surveyor to pay his way through school. Returning to his home section he practiced his profession there during his entire life, until ill health compelled him to retire. On Dec 20, 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Amelia White. Dr. Prentice felled the trees, dressed the lumber, and did all the carpenter work inside and out on their home in which they lived for nearly fifty years. Six children were born to them, Ernest of Massilon, Erving of Castalia, Dr. C.M. Prentice, Mrs. Eulala Leach , Mrs. Emma Dalzell and a son Walter who passed away in 1915. After the death of Mrs. Prentice, Dr. Prentice lived in Clyde for a few years, later moving to Sandusky. Dr. Prentice was an outstanding man in the community where he practiced his profession for many years. For a number of years he served as postmaster at Teemes, and was a member of the Townsend township board of education for several terms. He was president and manager of the Vickery Telephone Co. during its time of service until it was sold to the Clyde company in 1919.Dr. Prentice is survived by five children, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Norman of Clyde, Mrs. Nellie Wright of Erlin and Mrs. Olive Denhoff of Westerville.
