Joan M. (Hodgman) Prentice, 82, of Winchester died Nov. 18, 2018, at Applewood Health Care in Winchester. She passed peacefully after a brief period of declining health.

She was born March 31, 1936, daughter of the late Dorothy (Putnam) and Burche Hodgman. She graduated from Thayer High School class of 1954.

On May 5, 1960, she exchanged vows with Oliver “Sam” Prentice Jr. in South Carolina. They were married for 52 years before Sam’s death in 2013.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Mike Prentice and his wife, Laura, of Winchester, Bonnie Castor and her husband, Steve, of Alaska, Rick Prentice and his wife, Heidi, of Winchester; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She leaves four brothers, Burche Hodgman and his wife, Beth, of Lake City, Fla., Guy Hodgman of Winchester, Charles Hodgman and his wife, Joyce, of Winchester, Lewis Hodgman and his wife, Gail, of Winchester and several nieces and nephews. Joan is predeceased by her parents and brother Everett Hodgman.

In keeping with her wishes, there are no public services.

Donations may be made to Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services, P.O. 564, Keene N.H. 03431.

Cremation Society of New Hampshire is assisting the family with arrangements.
