Barbara Annette (McRae) Prentice

BROKEN BOW -- Barbara Annette (McRae) Prentice, 89, of Broken Bow died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Govier Bros. Mortuary Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Karges of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Barbara Annette was born March 27, 1928, at Ansley in Custer County to Flavious and Letha Lenore (Hickman) McRae. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1946 and attended Hastings College.

Barbara was united in marriage to Robert O. Chaney on Dec. 28, 1947, and to this union six children were born. They later divorced, and she married Wayne Prentice on July 5, 1976.

Barbara and Wayne made their home in Mullen, where they enjoyed their many friends, their dogs, their yard and garden. They enjoyed canning the produce from their garden and making jelly.

Barbara loved to crochet and became very good at making beautiful afghans for her friends and family. They enjoyed traveling to Arizona in the winter when their health permitted.

Barbara was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, George McRae; her husband; her son, Robert Dean Chaney; and a grandson, George Daniel Grijalva.

Barbara leaves to mourn her passing her children, Carla (Robert) Allen of Plum Creek Canyon near Lexington, Linda Powers of Broken Bow, Steve Chaney (life partner Douglas Lorence) of Bellevue, Susan (George) Grijalva of Tucson, Ariz., and Deborah (Jim) Coleman of Broken Bow; nine grandchildren, Christine (John) Maessner of Kearney, Catherine (David) Minnick and Tina Nielsen, all of Broken Bow, Tony Powers of Lexington, Jeremy Coleman of Broken Bow, Jackie (Mark) Chandler of Anselmo, Mitch (Laura) Coleman of Kearney and Michael (Jessica) Coleman and Marcus Coleman, all of Broken Bow; and 15 great-grandchildren.
