'Jack' Hobart Thomas Prentice was born in Los Angeles to Irene Pennebaker Prentice, and Arthur Spaulding Prentice, joining sister, Doris and brother Robert. He attended Beverly Hills High School (Spring 1941), and later joined the Navy as a pilot. After the war he worked as a production clerk at MGM and met future wife, Lois Marion Haymond. Jack apprenticed at two jewelry firms in L.A., Brock and Co. and Donovan & Seamans. In 1958 the family moved to Rolling Hills and he opened his own jewelry store in Palos Verdes Estates. He continued in the Navy Reserves testing new planes and serving in numerous operations until he retired in 1965, at the rank of Commander. Retiring from his jewelry business in 1980, he and Lois moved to Balboa Island, Surrey, England, and finally Carmel, California.
