Elaine Prentiss Hicks was born January 18, 1926 and entered rest on December 17, 2013, at the age of 97. Although a native of San Antonio, Elaine resided in Comfort, Texas since 1981. She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, where she served on her congregation's council and presided over numerous committees. Educated as an Elementary teacher, she taught in Kerrville, San Antonio, and California schools while with her husband, a career Marine officer. She was also a lifetime member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, for which she was past District Alumni Chairman. Elaine was also a member of the Daughters of Republic of Texas, the Comfort Porcelain Art Club, and the most active member of the San Antonio Conservation Society. She was married 54 years, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Lt. Col. Norman W. Hicks, USMC (Ret'd), son Norman W. Hicks, Jr., and daughter Linda Goss Herrmann. Elaine is survived by her grandchildren Jamalynn E. Holloway, Aaron W. Goss, and D'Amber Bedenbaugh; great-granddaughters Katherine Nicole Locke and Hannah Ann Bedenbaugh, and great -grandsons Ethan James Locke and Rhett Bedenbaugh. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 2:00-5:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218. A funeral service will take place at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church, P.O.Box 427, Comfort, Texas, 78013. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com
