Ida Dorothy Doering

Ida Dorothy Doering, 101, of Helena, passed away early Tuesday morning, Dec. 10, 2013, in Helena. Ida was born in Mullen, Neb., on Dec. 1, 1912, to Alexander and Ruth (Prentis) Allan. She graduated from high school in Thompson Falls in 1932. Ida married Jack Loren Doering on April 29, 1935, in Plains. Jack preceded her in death June 22, 1968.
In her working career, Ida taught school in Mullen, was a master welder in the construction of ships in Seattle during WWII, was a cook at Bon Marche in Seattle, ran a diner and worked at Rexall Drug in Plains. She enjoyed painting, gardening, needlework, knitting and crocheting. In the outdoors, Ida was deer hunter and loved to fish. Ida was a member of the Maple Hill Lutheran Church in Pine River, Minn., and the First Presbyterian Church in Helena. She was a life member of Order of Eastern Star, a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Plains and Homemakers of Pine River, Minn.
In addition to her husband, Ida was preceded in death by her two brothers, James and Robert; four sisters, Ruth Buchanan, Margaret Liddell, Laura Olsen and Shirley Weise. Ida is survived by her son, Mark James (Cindy) Doering of Dillon; and her daughter, Sally (Gerald) Luke of Helena; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will be held in the social center of the funeral home immediately following the memorial service. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Thompson Falls.
