Nancy Prentice

Nancy was born on October 13, 1929 at home near Monte Vista to Quincy and Nelle (Corlett) Cornelius. After graduating from Monte Vista High School and attending Colorado University she married Dean Prentice in 1950 and moved to Rocky Ford. They had three children. After returning to Monte Vista she attended Adams State College and received her teaching certificate. She taught fifth grade for several years and later was instrumental in developing and running the first permanent library in the Monte Vista Elementary school.
Nancy was a member of Chapter V, P.E.O. Monte Vista, belonged to several bridge clubs and supported her children’s Boy Scout, 4-H, DeMolay and Rainbow for Girls and school activities. In her retirement years Nancy knitted many projects for family members and for charity. She will be remembered for her love of children’s literature and reading, and for her cooking and entertaining skills.
Nancy is survived by children -- Suzanne (Rick) of Gering, Nebraska, Jim (Pat) Prentice of Monte Vista, Bob (Donna Graves) Prentice of Durango, sister-in-laws -- Sandra (Clayton) Kline and Jean Prentice, eight grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, parents, sisters, Susan Gallagher, Ann Jochim, brother, Quincy Cornelius, and daughter-in-law CiCi Rock.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held later. Memorials can be made to San Luis Valley Wildlife Refuge or any children’s library program. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Gering Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
