Update of 24 Apr 2000: William Prentice of Ilion is the same person as William Prentice of Fly Creek , discussed in our Fall 1999 article. See that earlier article for additional information and additional updating.

Update of 15 Jan 2003: This article has been replaced by our later article on Edwin A. Prentice of NY, NE and NM

We are helping Charles Prentice in the tracing his Prentice roots. Here is what we have so far:

1. William Floyd Prentice was b. Aug 1869 (per 1900 census) and in or near Maryland, Otsego Co., NY according to Charles. William appears as a bachelor in the 1900 Ilion, Herkimer Co. NY census.

About 1904 he married the widow Mrs. Eda Bliss Pierce who, by her deceased prior husband, John Pierce, had:

  1. William Pierce.
  2. Bessie Pierce.
  3. Ben Pierce.

The children of William Prentice and Eda were:

  1. Glenn Prentice, b. 1907.
  2. Floyd Prentice, b. 1909
  3. Raymond Harold Prentice, b. 13 Feb 1911 and d. 17 Aug 1992. He m. Louise Henrickson in Nov 1934. Son:
    • Charles Prentice

Note: The 1920 census apparently erred in identifying the last 3 sons as being surnamed "Pierce."

Who are the parents of William Floyd Prentice?

Charles Prentice relates that his mother's maiden name was Ellen Hooker and she was from Otsego county NY.
