Robert Prentice indicates that William's roots extend back to the American Revolution, when the Prentice family came to Canada as Empire Loyalists. The 1891 census shows them living in Midland, Ontario, Canada. Tbey had 1 or more children, including:

  • John Prentice, b. c. 1840-50. . . . . . . [2]

She was b. 1850, daughter of Charles ad Marion Lebrash who was French Canadian and born in 1817. Marion was born c. 1820 in the United States, one of 5 children.
