He m. Agnes Somerville. She was chr. 5 Feb 1758 in the Parish of Li8bberton, d. 16 Mar 1793 at age 35, and is also buried at Carnwath cemetery. Agnes was the dau. of William Somerville (a tenant in Baitlaw) and Marion Lawson. Known children of David and Agnes:

She m. Robert Thom in Rothesay. He was chr. 23 Jan 1774 and bur Dec 1847, Rothesay Cem., Isle of Bute. Robert is probably son of John Thom and Elizabeth Dun(n) of Tarbolton, Ayrshire.
Robert Thom was a civil engineer who designed the Greenock Cut to supply the Rothesay Cotton Mills with water. Robert Thom, Esquire was earlier a Cotton Spinner then became a Civil Engineer. He was educated at the Andersonian Institute in Glasgow (now the University of Strathclyde). He worked on maximising the water power to drive the cotton mills in West Lothian and Rothesay and gained a reputation as an excellent hydraulic engineer.
He was commissioned to design the domestic and industrial water supply to Greenock and much of his system remains in use today. His name is remembered in the principal reservoir on the scheme, Loch Thom (built 1825-27). In Inverclyde serving Greenock, Loch Thom is 12.8m (42 feet) deep and lies next to the Gryfe Reservoir. They had 1 or more children, including:

In the 1881 & 1891 census they lived at 30 Snowdon Place, Stirling, Scotland where he was an annuitant. In the 1901 census they lived at 84 Albert Park, Roseneath, Kilcreggan & Cove, Dumbarton where he was shown as a retired Law Clerk. Children:

- Kate Thom Annan, b. 16 Feb 1875, Ascog Tower, Kingarth, Buteshire, Scotland. 1881 census living at home. 1891 census living at 30 Snowden Place, Stirling, 1901 lived at 84 Albert Park, Roseneath, Kilcreggan & Cove, Dumbarton - no occupation shown. 1905, when her mother died, lived at Firthside, West Kilbride, Ayrshire, unmarried.
