Joseph Prentice of Shelby Co., Alabama
The 1860 Shelby County, Alabama census shows the following family which we have yet to identify:
In a related article, we have discussed James Prentice, also of Shelby County, and who also was born in TN in 1792, just a year earlier than Joseph.
- Joseph Prentice, b. c. 1792, TN, Planter
- Margaret Prentice, b. c. 1790, TN
- Martha Prentice, b. c. 1833, AL
With the help of Marshel Cunningham, we have identified an early Prentice resident of Shelby County, John Prentice, born 1772, who who was living in TN in 1812 and 1816 when his sons William and Daniel were born. Sometime before about 1827 Daniel and his family moved to Shelby County. Marshel, one of John's descendants, and his cousins have not been able to identify James as a son of John.
If James is not a son of John, whose son is he?
Recently discovered evidence seems to suggest the possibility that both James and Joseph may be grandsons of a Joseph Prentice, born about 1700 and who might be a brother of William Prentis of Williamsburg, VA.
