1. James Prentice was b. c. 1793, TN per the 1850 Shelby County, Alabama census.
He m. Margaret, b. c. 1798, TN. Children:

- John Prentice, b. c. 1829, AL
- Martha Prentice, b. c. 1831, AL
Marshel Cunningham of Shelby County, a descendant of a different Prentice family in Shelby County, indicates that other of James' children also appear in the 1850 and 1860 census with their own families:

Also appearing in the 1850 Shelby Co. census is Julia Ann Prentice, wife of Elsy Veasy. The Marriage Index says that Julia and Elsy were married on 20 Feb 1843 in Shelby Co., AL.
