Binney Index

(This is an update to an article in our Fall '95 Issue.)

Binney's 1883 Edition of the PRENTICE book has been a classic, containing much valuable information. Unfortunately, it has a miserable index. Only head of families are listed.

We have solved that problem in our new, 1997 Edition (see PrenticeNet for more information), but many folks still prefer to use the older edition.

A few months ago we mentioned that were in the process of preparing a new index as a replacement for the woefully inadequate one in Binney's 1883 book.

That process was completed in early October, 1995. We have a new PRENTICE index for the 1883 edition which combines, under a single listing, all first names of every Prentice mentioned in the book, whether or not they were the head of a family. Binney listed only heads of families. For the more common names we have included birth dates to facilitate your search.

We also have a new OTHER NAME index which now includes all first names. Binney's book did not include first names.

We also have a completely new LOCALITY index for every town, county and state mentioned in the book. It is highly useful in trying to identify roots since families in an area with the same surname often were close kin.

If you would like a copy, please contact us at dewald@prenticenet.com and we will send you a copy. If you prefer, we can send it on a 3.5" or 5.25" diskette so you can continually update it yourself. The cost is $25, which includes all costs of mailing.
