W. L. Prentice of Le Roy, Mower Co., Minnesota

W. L. Prentice of Le Roy, Mower Co., Minnesota
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Summer 2008 and Revised 1 Jul 2008

Update of 1 Jul 2008: This article has been merged into our Winter 2002 article about William L. Prentice of OH and MN . That article now replaces this article.

1. W. L. Prentice was likely b. c. 1850-60 at an unknown location. He may have been living in Le Roy City, Mower Co., MN in 1896 where his wife died. MN

He m. Clara S. Hoffner. She was b. c. 1860 and d. 17 Feb 1896, age 36 years, 1 month and 27 days, in Le Roy City, Mower Co., MN. She is bur there in the Le Roy City Cemetery. It is unclear whether she is the Clara Hoffner shown in the 1880 census in Philadelphia, PA, as b. c. 1859, PA (as were her parents) and then an unmarried Servant in the home of William and Ellen Godfrey.

Who is W. L. Prentice?

We did not find a W. L. Prentice in the 1880 or 1900 Mower Co., MN, census, but he might be related to the:

  • Wilber Prentiss, b. c. 1863, MN who appears in the 1880 Le Roy census with his widowed mother, Jane J., b. c. 1823, VT, and brother, Hale Prentiss, b. c. 1856, IA, and apparently the same person as,

  • Wilbur M. Prentis, b. c. 1863, MN, shown in the 1900 and 1910 Leroy census with his wife, Clara, b. c. 1878, Germany, and who is #183 in our Stephen-3 Prentice eBook.

Note, however that (1) the surname spelling is different, (2) the middle initial is different, M and not L, and (3) that Clara has a different birth year, 1878 and not 1860.
