Prentices of Tillingham, Essex, England

Prentices of Tillingham, Essex, England
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Winter 2006 and Revised 12 Dec 2006

1. William Prentis was b. c. 1811 in Essex, England. He first appears in the 1841 census in Tillingham, Essex, with his wife and family. Tillingham lies near the coast, approximately 20 miles east of Chelmsford (See map).

He m. Hannah, b. c. 1811, Essex. Their known children are:

  1. Eliza Prentis, b. c. 1830, Essex. At home in 1841 in Tillingham, Essex.
  2. Elizabeth Prentis, b. c. 1840, Essex. At home in 1841 in Tillingham, Essex.
  3. James Prentis, b. c. 1837, Essex. At home in 1841 in Tillingham, Essex. Not in 1851 census. Since we do not have his birth town within Essex, we cannot tell if he appears in lthe 1861 and later census records.

William and Hannah do not appear in the 1851 and later census records with the same 1811 birth year for Hannah. However, and although Hannah's birth year is different, they may be the same persons who appear in the 1861 census in Black Notley (see Prentices of Black Notley.)
