Who are James Prentice's Parents?

A check of the 1881 Ontario census does not disclose any other Prentice family living in either Carrick or Bruce South, Ontario. That suggests that perhaps James was perhaps born in another part of Ontario.

We also checked the 1881 Oxford North, Ontario census since that is where James Prentice m. in 1865. We found the following family in the 1881 census in Blenheim, Oxford North:

  • Joseph Prentice, Irish, b. c. 1846, Ontario, Methodist.
  • Mary Prentice, b. c. 1855, Scottish, Methodist.
  • Arthur Prentice, b. c. 1880, Ontario.
Also living with the family was David Prentice, b. c. 1848, Farmer, Methodist. Their ages and locations suggest that Joseph and David might be brothers to James Prentice.

Another family living in Blandford, Oxford North was:

  • William Prentice, b. c. 1851 in England, Irish origin, Blacksmith, Weslyan Methodist.
  • Margeitt Prentice, b. c. 1857 in Ontario, Irish origin, Weslyan Methodist.
  • William Prentice, b. c. 1879, Ontario.
He, too, might be a brother of James Prentice and/or Joseph and David, above.
