To the right on your computer screen is a scanned photograph of Frances M. Prentice which we received from Pat Carey, one of our correspondents, who is not a Prentice. The person providing the photograph does not know when or where Frances M. Prentice was born, nor she know whether "Prentice" is Frances' maiden surname or her married surname.
We do know that the photo was taken in 1894, that she was at that time a High School Librarian in Albany, Albany Co., NY.
We think she might be the Francis M. Prentiss shown in the 1880 Albany, Albany Co., NY, census who was b. c. 1855, NY, dau. of the widow Sarah S. Prentiss, b. c. 1825, NY, with both parents b. in NY.
The b. c. 1825 Sarah S. Prentiss may be the same person as the Sarah S. Prentice shown in the earlier 1860 Albany census as b. c 1830, NY, wife of John T. Prentice, b. c. 1830, NY.
It might be that John T. Prentice of Albany, NY, b. c. 1830, NY, is the same person as the John F. Prentice, shown in the 1850 Abany census, and is the son of Ebenezer Prentice, b. c. 1800, Scotland. who is the subject of our Winter 2004 article entitled Ebenezer Prentice of Scotland and Albany, Albany Co., NY
