b.1827-02-04; d.1901-01-09; Townsend Township, Sandusky County, Ohio; Sandusky Register Jan 16, 1901 (Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library)
(contributed by Carl Prentice on 2013-10-26)
He married Miss Wealtha Barnes, October 1st, 1846, who survives him, they both spent their lives in Margaretta and Townsend townships. The surviving children are Mrs. Antoinette Hamilton of Cleveland, O.; Mrs. Mary Heisey of Teemes, O.; Mrs Alice Norman of Whitmore, O.; Mrs. Olive Dehnoff of Westerville, O.; Mrs. Olive Wright of Erlin, O., and Mr. Henry Prentice of Teemes, O., and Mr. Burton Prentice of Laird, Col., who were present at the funeral.
Two brothers, M.L. Prentice of Margarette, O., and N.E. Prentice of Payne, O.. One half brother J.K. Barnes of Columbus, O., and one half sister, Mrs. Louisa Colburn of Hickman, Pa., are left to mourn the loss of a brother. The deceased, through his long and useful life, had always a kind heart and open ear for the poor. It can be said of him: "An honest man is the noblest work of God." His untimely taking away brings inexpressible sadness and regret to every heart in this community. On every hand are heard expressions of sorrow, and most cordial sympathy for those who are passing through the shadow of a great grief. May this wealth of sympathy and tender consolations of an Infinite Heavenly Father comfort and sustain these bereft ones, helping them to wait patiently and hopefully, until the shadows lift in the morning when God shall gather his children together.
Mr. Prentice was a grandson of Ebeneazer Hartwell, a native of Vermont, who came to Margaretta from Canada, and settled on a farm near the Seven Mile House, in 1814. His father, Levi Prentice, came from Cazenovia, N.Y., in 1816, with the late Dr. Tilden. He was loved and respected by a host of friends and acquaintances; all of whom mourn his loss.
