Adelbert R. Prentice of Albany, NY
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Summer 2004 and Revised 9 Nov 2009

Update of 25 May 2005: Adelbert R. Prentice appears to be the same person as Adelbert Case who appears in the 1900 Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY census as b. April 1893, NY, son of Ethel Case, b. Nov 1874, NY, daughter of Roland Parish, b. Jul 1832 in NY, as were both of his parents. Subject to further investigation, Ethel may have married a Mr. Case who may have d. or divorced her before the 1900 census.
We are helping Elizabeth Lounsbury <> in tracing her Prentice roots. Here is what we have so far:

1. Adelbert R. Prentice was b. 11 Apr 1894, NY and d. Apr 1973, Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY (per SSDI). He appears in the 1930 census in Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY with his wife and family. He was then a Chauffeur for a Dairy Company. Was a PFC in the Army in WW II. Bur. St. Joseph's Cem., Lee, Auburn, NY.

He m. Ruth A. Rice, b. c. 1895-96, NY

Elizabeth Lounsbury's email of 24 May 2004 says that Adelbert "was adopted by Dewitt Prentice" and by email of 26 May 2004, Elizabeth Lounsbury advises that Adelberts biological last name was Case. A single, unmarried man named Dewitt Prentice, b. Jun 1850, NY, does appear in the 1900 Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY census. He also appears in the 1910 in Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY census as De Witt Prentice.

Children of Adelbert and Ruth:

Who are Adelbert Prentice's Parents? And who did Dewitt Prentice have a family?

We have not yet identified Adelbert's parents, but we do have a possible clue about a possible family for Dewitt Prentice. The 1930 Auburn census shows Ralph E. Prentice, b. c. 1905, NY, living with his mother, Ethel Prentice, b. c. 1875, NY. By email of 26 May 2004, Elizabeth Lounsbury advises that Ethel is Dewitt's wife and that Ralph is their son.
