Maria Louisa Stoops was born, 6 Feb 1823, in OH. Died, 12 Mar 1901, in Elmer, Macon, MO. Burial in Elmer Cem., Macon, MO. Census: 1850, in Pleasant Grove, Marion, IA.

Maria was first married to a Mr. Hall and had a daughter, Harriet. She next married a Mr. Gauss.

She married, as her third husband, John Roland Harris Prentice.

Friends remember Maria as a loving, kind woman, loved and respected by all who knew her. After John deserted her (telling her he was going to find more land and a better place to live) she and her children moved to Macon Co., MO. She was a religious woman and a member of the Baptist Church. She spent her final years living in the Elmer Hotel, now abandoned. Children:
