William H. Prentice of Troy, NY

William H. Prentice of Troy, Rensselaer Co., NY
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Fall 1999 and Revised 1 Jul 2004

Update of 28 Dec 2010: William H. Prentice is the son of James Reed Prentice, #23iii in our Robert Prentice eBook. That eBook now replaces this article

1. William H. Prentice was b. c. 1832 in CT. He appears in the 1880 Troy, Rensselaer Co., NY census his wife, Sarah R., b. c. 1843 in NY, and their children:

  1. Mary L. Prentice, b. c. 1870, NY
  2. Martha I. Prentice, b. c. 1877, NY
Also living with them is a niece, Anna M. Tanner, b. c. 1861 in KY. We do not know whether Anna is the daughter of a sibling of Henry or of his wife, Sarah. However, Henry's mother was named "Anna," indicating the possibility that Anna M. Tanner may have been a married, or widowed, daughter of one of Henry's siblings.

Binney's 1883 edition did not mention any marriage and said William Henry Prentice was "a farmer in North Stonington, CT." However, we do not know the date on which Binney obtained his information; if he is the same person, Binney may have obtained his information prior to William H. Prentice's estimated 1868-70 marriage.
