Thomas Prentice of Massachusetts and Pennsylvania
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Fall 1999 and Revised 20 Sep 2008

We are helping Ferne Hellie in her efforts to identify her Prentice roots. Here is what we have so far:

1. Thomas Prentice was born c. 1771-72 in MA and d. 10 Oct 1863. Bur. in Lowville Cemetery, Lowville, Erie Co., PA. Thomas Prentice was an early settler in Venango Township and was a Private in the 136th Regiment (Phillips') Pennsylvania Militia, War of 1812.

We do not know the name of Thomas' first wife, nor when or where they were married. She apparently died at some date before 1825 when Thomas again married.

He m. 2nd the widow Wealthy Hibbard ;in 1825. She was previously married to Jacob Hibbard who drowned in Lake Erie near Conneaut, OH. Thomas and Wealthy lived in Venango, Erie Co., PA until her death in 1831.

Thomas then married, as his third wife, Jemima (surname unknown). Jemima was b. c. 1871-72 in CT and appears with Thomas in the 1860 Lowville, Erie Co., PA census. Like Thomas, Jemima is also buried in Lowville Cemetery, Lowville, Erie Co., PA.

Who are Thomas Prentice's Parents?

Investigation is continuing.
