She had a prior m. to George Freeman Delapp and they had three sons and three daughters together. She then married Shirley Prentice in September 1920. She died in Gloversville, NY.

2. Donald Prentice, b. 8 Apr 1919, NY, and d. 8 Apr 1919 per SSDI. 1920 at home in Oneonta, Otsego Co., NY. 1930 he may be the single, 11 year old boarder who appears in Milford, Otsego Co., NY, in the home of Frank and Ottoway about 15 miles NNE of Oneonta. 1940 he might be the 21 year old married (but no wife shown) farm laborer living in Laurens, Otsego Co., NY, about 10 miles north of Oneonta, except that there is an inferred 1935 residence in Canaan, Columbia Co., NY, about 100 miles east of Oneonta.

He may be the Donald Prentice, about whom information is sought by Sherry Torres for her step-mother about her father; Her Donald Prentice was b. 8 Apr 1919 and enlisted in the Navy about 1940-1941 at Oneonta. With that birth date, he has to be the Donald Prentice who, according to Social Security records, died in Washington (Co.?), NY in Jul 1951. He also has to be the Donald L. Prentice shown in the "U. S. Headstone Applications for Military Veterans, 1925-1963" as b. 6 Apr 1919 and d. 6 Jul 1951, bur. San Quoit Cem., San Quoit, NY. However, "U. S. Veterans Gravesites, ca. 1775-2006" shows a Donald L. Prentice Name: Donald L Prentice shows b. 6 Apr 1919, d. 6 Jul 1951, a Tec 5 US Army in WW II, and bur in St. Mary's Cem., 8 Church Rd Clayville, NY 13322

Donald is said to have a brother, Fred Prentice.

Who are Shirley Prentice's Parents?

Although only a guess for now, Shirley Prentice might be a brother of Frederick R. Prentice, b. c. 1874 in PA. Fred is a descendant of Valentine Prentice, Fred appears in the 1920 Oneonta census with his wife, Freida Bertha Uttridt, b. c. 1879 in Alsace Lorraine. 1940 in Oneonta living with daughter Agnes and husband. Children:

  1. Mabel Prentice , b. c. 1900, NY.
  2. Hazel May Prentice, b. c. 1900, PA, and d. Mar 1979, Binghamton, NY, 1920 Oneonta, Otsego Co., NY, shown as Mrs. Knifer living at the home of her parents, but no husband is named. Not in 1930 or 1940 census.
  3. Frederick C. Prentice , b. 17 May 1901, PA. Died in PA.
  4. Helen Cecil Prentice, b. 16 Sep 1902, in PA., and d. Aug 1981, NY, age 78 years. She m. Otto Laraway on 17 Jun 1924, in Oneonta, New York. They had two children:
    1. Otto W. Laraway, b. 23 Nov 1925 and d. 19 Dec 2000, age 75 years.
    2. Philip Laraway, b. 25 Sep 1927 and d. 14 Feb 1991, at the age of 63 years.
  5. Agnes M. Prentice, b. c. 1907, PA. 1920 at home in Oneonta, Otsego Co., NY. 1940 in Oneonta as wife of William Stack, b. c. 1906, PA; no children shown.

Fred would have been about 17 when Shirley was b. about 1791. Further, absence of children born between 1907 and 1920 suggests that additional children were born between 1890 and 1900. On the other hand, unless Frieda was a 2nd wife, her 1879 birth date seems to maker her too young to be Donald's mother.

Assuming Shirley is Fred's son, it would not be surprising for Shirley to have named a son, perhaps born after 1920, after Shirley's father.
