We are helping Fraser Gartshore, Kirkintilloch, Scotland, in his efforts to identify the parents of Mary Prentice, The only confirmed information so far, from Mary's headstone, is that they lived in Lanark, that Mary died 29 Oct 1824, age 53, and that she is buried in St. Kentigerns cemetery there.

Mary m. Robert Fraser, a mason, who was b. in Lanark in 1769, son of William Fraser and Ann Alexander. Present information is that they had seven children:

1. Mary Ann Fraser,
2. William Fraser, b. 1800.
3. George Fraser, b. 1802.
4. Helen Fraser, b. 1805.
5. David Fraser, b. 1807.
6. Robert Fraser, b. 1810.
7. Thomas Fraser, b. 1813. He is Fraser's great-great-grandfather. A compositor/printer. He m. Elisabeth Dunlop, from Galston Ayrshire, in Gorbals, Glasgow in 1836. They moved for a while to Edinburgh where they had two children, Rebecca Mainard Fraser, b. 1838, and Robert Fraser, b. 1840. The do not appear on the 1841 census for the address in Edinburgh so they may have moved back to Glasgow where they had another daughter, Mary Prentice Fraser, b. 1845.

Since Mary was 53 when she died in 1825, that would indicate a birth date of 1771 if she had passed her birthday in the year of her death, 1824.

The IGI and Glasgow records shows a likely match with a Mary Prentice, b. 12 Jul 1771 and chr. 3 Sep 1771, Cambusnethan. She is the daughter of James Prentice and Marion Waddel (See Fn. 1)

James Prentice is likely the James Prentice, chr. 4 Jun 1732 in Carluke, son of John Prentice. The name of John' wife was not given in Glasgow records. John Prentice might be:

• John Prentice who was chr. 25 Jan 1702 in Carluke, son of James Prentice and his unnamed wife, or
• John Prentice who was chr. 6 Jun 1703 in Carluke, son of John Prentice and his unnamed wife.
