Although only a guess at this point, there may be a clue contained in an earlier article in our PRENTICE NEWSLETTER about Ransom Prentiss which appears in our Summer 1997 issue. Ransom Prentiss was b. c. 1775 and first appeared in the 1810 Canandaigua census. Ransom died 18 Oct 1846 at the age of 71 and is buried in the Remington Cemetery in Canandaigua County.
Since persons of the same surname living in the same town are often related, it might be that Jared and Ransom are brothers and that both have the same parents.
Additionally, a search of Rootsweb.com shows a Jared Prentiss, perhaps b. c. 1750-65, who m. Mary Douglas who was b. c. 1766 and d. c. 1822. Their children:
- Mary Elizabeth Prentiss, b. c. 1787
- Christopher Prentiss, b. c. 1790.
- Ransom Jared Prentiss, b. c. 1792. He had a daughter:
- Minerva Prentiss. She m. Mr. Benham.
Fn. 1: Josiah Emery had at least 2 other sons (per IGI):
- Josiah Jr. who m. Elizabeth and had Asher and Edward, and Moses, and
- John Cutler Emery who m. Mary Herkes in 1840 in Novi, Oakland Co., MI
