Winter 2000 and Revised 3 May 2003
Note: This article has now been replaced by our later Fall 2002 article about James Prentice of Essex County, England
Original Article: We are helping James Henry Prentice in tracing the ancestry of his grandfather, James Prentice. James Prentice was likely b. c. 1835-45 and lived for some considerable time in Scotland, returning only to England shortly before the birth of his son, James Anderson Prentice.
James m. Charlotte Anderson, b. c. 1860. His children included:
- James Anderson Prentice, b. 20 May 1884 in Camberwell, London, England.
His children included:
- James Henry Prentice, b. Exeter, England in 1915.
- (female) Prentice, perhaps a twin of James, who died in childhood.
- George Prentice. Lived in the 1890s in Paris, France.
James Henry Prentice relates that James Prentice's mother's maiden name was either Macgregor or Macpherson. He also tells us that his father (JAP) used to refer to a William Prentice, who probably lived in the early part of the 19th century. He also talked of the fact that the the family had been reasonably affluent until one member, and it may have been William, though my memory is not too clear on this point, spent rather lavishly.
