The 1327 Lay Subsidy (i.e. tax roll) of Suffolk, England, includes John Prentys, weaver of Sudbury. His presently known family tree has been compiled by Ian Prentice and is set out below.1. Henry Prentice of Sudbury, Suffolk Co., England was living in 1318 and probably died before 1327. The name of his wife is not yet known. He had 2 or more children, including:
- Henry Prentice.
- John Prentice, a Weaver, who was assessed at 5s in the 1327 tax list. He had land in Bulmer and Middleton. John was involved in a Fleet of Fines in 1346 which may indicate that he died then. He m. Sarah (surname not known).
A descendant of John or Henry had a wife who died a widow in 1445. She had 2 or more children, including:
- Alexander Prentice. The name Alexander later occurs in Essex County where an Alexander Prentice m. Mariann Houndell in White Notely in 1617 perhaps indicating that this Alexander was an ancestor.
- Agnes Prentice.
