Who is Curtis Prentice's father?
The first name, Curtis, is unusual and may run within a single family line. If so, his Father may be #4, Curtis Dunham Prentice in our Summer 2006 article entitled Christopher Prentice of CT although Curtis Dunham Prentice was b. in NY while the 1900 census says he was b. in MI (both agree his wife was b. in NY).
Unfortunately, Curtis Prentice, b. 1851, does not appear in Curtis Dunham Prentice's (CDP's) home in the 1850 census, in the 1860 census the family is missed, and in the 1870 census he does not appear in CDP's home or anywhere else under either name (Curtis Prentice or Joseph C. Prentice).
Another possibility is that his father is Curtis Prentice, b. c. 1800, a physician who appears in the 1830 Pawling, Dutchess Co., NY census. It is not yet known whether he married and had any children.
Finally, if his name is Joseph Curtis Prentice, as apparently indicated in the 1900 census, there is less reason to think he may be linked to Curtis Dunham Prentice.
