Wife of William W. Geady
Cecil Prentice Jr. brings to our attention an entry in the Virginia Gazette and General Advertiser, published Wednesday, November 23, 1796 which can be found in Microfilm #44, p. 2, c. 2 in the Bernard J. Henley Collection located in the Library of Virginia:
- "Married - In Petersburg on Thursday last, Mr. William W. Geady, to
Miss Betsey Prentis, both of this place."
Assuming it is her first marriage, she was probably born between 1772 and 1780.
We do not have any such marriage in our database, but we do have two young ladies who might be "Betsey", or Elizabeth.
There was a Joseph Prentis of Williamsburg whose ancestry is unknown. He might be a brother of the original immigrant, William Prentis of Williamsburg. We show that Joseph (#4) had a son, Daniel (#10) who had a daughter Elizabeth. Our information about her is vague because we do not have any firm ages for Joseph and Daniel, but Elizabeth was likely born sometime between 1725 and 1775.
Daniel (#10) also had a son, Daniel (#10i) about whom we have no information other than he was likely born between 1725 and 1765. He could have married and had the Betsey who married William W. Geady.
Joseph (#4) also had a son, Joseph (#11) who had a daughter named Elizabeth, b. 13 Oct 1771. We have no marriage information for her.
Cecil suggests Betsey might be a daugher of William Prentis of Williamsburg's son, Daniel, and his wife Betsey Godwin m. 1772.
