Summer 2000 and Revised: 28 Apr 2000
Update of 6 Aug 2000: We had posted a query for Dane County, WI on GenConnect. An answer posted this date references the "History of Dane County, Wis-1880" and in biographical sketches for Town of Medina is a sketch for Philander PORTER.
It says he was born in Onedia Co, NY, 11 Dec 1813 and died 28 Sept 1874 in Medina. He moved to Cattaraugus Co, NY when he 21 years old; moved in Medina, Dane Co, WI in May 1845. He married in Cattaraugus Co, 24 March 1839 to Aurilla PRENTICE, who was born in the town of Hanover, Chautauqua Co, NY, 29 Feb 1816.
It confirmed our educated surmise that Aurilla was the daughter of Salmon and Edna (SWEET) PRENTICE, natives of Vermont.

Original Article: We are helping Dana Kerr in trying to identify the parents of Aurella Prentice, probably b. 29 Feb 1816, who m. Philander C. Porter on 24 Mar 1839 in Cattaraugus, NY.
About 1845 she and Philander moved to Dane County Wisconsin where she died 18 Dec 1885. They had at least one child, Dana's great-grandmother:
- Zylpha Marie Porter, b. 1 Feb 1840, Oneida Co., NY.
- Edna Porter, b. 7 Nov 1841 and d. 15 Mar 1844, Oneida Co., NY.
- Charles Emery Porter, b. 23 May 1845, Sun Prairie, WI.
- Uretta Minerva Porter, b. 28 Apr 1846, Sun Prairie, WI.
- Mary Adjade Porter, b. 7 May 1848, Sun Prairie, WI.
- Martha Amelia Porter, b. 26 Nov 1852, Sun Prairie, WI.
- Isaac Prentice Porter, b. 1 Sep 1857,Sun Prairie, WI.
Since Aurella was married in Cattaraugus Co., NY, it seems likely that her family was living in Cattaraugus County at that time. And the only presently known Prentice family living there in that time frame is that of Salmon/Solomon Prentice who is #22558 in our computerized database. He is thought to have had at least 4 children whose names are not yet known; one them might be Aurella Prentice.
In addition, Salmon/Solomon had a daughter, Zilpah, b. c. 1805. That is such an unusual name, it suggests that Zilpah may have been Aurella's aunt, for whom Aurella's daughter, Zylpha, was named.
