Summer 1998 and Revised 23 Apr 2004
In the Summer of 1998, Mr. Scott Prentice, Webmaster at PrenticeNet, had announced the pending merger of PrenticeNet to a major genealogical family association with headquarters in New England. Details of the sale have not been disclosed, but informed sources indicate the merger is with the Chesebrough Family Association. Mr. Prentice is thought by many as likely to become the Chairman and Chief Executive Office of the new, consolidated organization.
The ultimate objective is combine the databases of both organizations so as to facilitate genealogical research.
Mr. Prentice had earlier announced that, in line with that objective, all members of PrenticeNet will, until 31 Dec 1999, be allowed to retain their present surnames, but that beginning in the year 2000, the following must occur:
- All members, whether named "Prentiss," "Prentiss," "Prentice," or other surname will be required to change their name to "Chesebrough."
- Before being allowed to log onto the new, combined website, all members will also be required to produce a certified copy of a Court Judgment showing their name change to "Chesebrough."
That 31 Dec 1999 deadline has now been extended to 31 Dec 2004 and the necessary changes will become effective on 1 Jan 2005.
