Missouri Prentices in 1850 and Later Census
The 1850 and later Missouri Census contains the following individuals who we have not yet been able to identify. For convenience, spellings of the PRENTICE, PRENTIS and PRENTISS surnames have been consolidated into a single surname spelling. Comments references, such as 278/58, are to the page and number of individuals in our new PRENTICE book. All were born in MO unless otherwise indicated.

Has son, Junius (b. c. 1869, MO) Likely a son of Junius Prentiss, 427/46ii, who is a son of Gideon Prentice. Gideon appears again in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 Caldwell census with his wife, Clara M. Fn. 6. Born MA May be son of Jonathan who lived in Worthington, MA, and had a son named Alpheus. Fn. 7. Born KY. Probably widow. Living with daughter, Nathy, b. c. 1860 in MO. Fn. 8. Born OH. Probably widow. Living with sons, N. C. (b. c. 1847, OH) and William (b. c. 1853, IA). Fn. 9. Born IL. Also in household is mother, Louisa (b. 1819, TN) and sister, Anna M. (b. 1858, IL). Anna living in Sedalia, Pettis Co., MO in 1910 census. Both also appear in the 192- census in Sedalia. Fn. 10. He is probably Christopher J. Prentice, a son of William Otis Prentice (175/iv). For descendants of William, see Prentices of the South: SC Prentices. Fn. 11. Born IL. Probably widow. Living with daughters Pauline F. (b. c. 1886, MO) and Lottie E. (b. c. 1893, MO). Living with Pauline in 1920 Sedalia census. Fn. 12. Born PA. Probably widow. Fn. 13. Probably a desc. of Archibald Prentice of Scotland. William's parents are William Prentice and Jennett; and Williiam is probably either a son of David (477/6) or John (477/7. Fn. 14. May be son of Samuel in 1900 census; he had a son, Harry, born 1878. Samuel appears in our book supplement, pg. 601 et seq. Fn. 15. Might be son of George and Ella in 1910 census who had a son, John J., born c. 1894 in KS. George is 205/75vii. Fn. 16. Living with mother, Katie G., who was b. c. 1884 in MO. Fn. 17. Earnet C. appears in the 1900 Delta, Keokuk, IA census as the son of Frank W. Prentiss and his wife, Helen A. Prentiss. Frank was born in MA in Oct. 1847. Frank W. Prentiss is probably the Frank. W. Prentiss who appears in the 1850 Becket, Berkshire, MA census, apparently the son of William Prentiss, b. c. 1812 in MA. William is probably the person appearing on pg. 381 of Binney's 1883 book as follows: "William Prentice, ae. 42, Wheelwright; wife Ophelia, ae. 41 children: William, 15 years; Frank W., 9 years; Emily, 74 years, in one family in Becket, Berkshire County. (Census returns, 1850)" William may be the William Prentice (302/139) of Becket, b. 7 Oct 1807, who died at Becket in 1848, except that Binney's 1883 book said this William married "Irene Ames of Becket."
