Massachusetts Prentices in 1850 and Later Census Records
The 1850 Massachusetts Census contains the following individuals who we have not yet been able to identify. If you do not see a name listed, we may already have identified that person's ancestry. For convenience, spellings of the PRENTICE, PRENTIS and PRENTISS surnames have been consolidated into a single surname spelling. Comments references, such as 278/58, are to the page and number of individuals in our new PRENTICE book. All were born in MA unless otherwise indicated. The list is grouped by counties since folks living in proximity tend to be related.

Fn. 8. May be person shown in MA IGI, b. 12 Aug 1811 at Newton, son of Samuel and Sarah, 243/23. Fn. 9. MA IGI says m. 8 Dec 1816 at Stoneham. Fn. 10. Might be John Brooks Prentice, 115/147ii and 154/260, but Binney says he was b. in Winstead, CT, not MA as shown in census. Fn. 11. May be descendant of Thomas Prentice of Providence, RI. See PRENTICE book, pages 451-2. Fn. 12. Born MA May be son of Jonathan who lived in Worthington, MA, and had a son named Alpheus. Fn. 13 Frank N. Prentiss appears in the 1880 Norfolk Co., MA census with his wife, Anna M., b. c. 1849, MA, and children: Anna L. (1867), Clara F. (1869), Louis V. (1877) and Mary A. (1879) Fn. 14 Henry K. Prentice's mother, Adeline (b. c. 1802) was living with his family.
