Zelotus Prentice of Washington Co., NY

Zelotus Prentice of Washington Co., NY

By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Summer 1997 and Revised 14 Jun 2009

Update of 14 Jun 2009: This article has now been replaced by our Fall 2009 article of the same name.

1. Zelotus Prentice appears as Zeloties Prentis in the 1810 Washington Co., NY census. He also appears in the 1820 and 1830 Hartford, Washington Co., NY census.

  • In the 1810 census Zelotus and his wife are under 45 years of age (born after 1765) with a son under 10 (b. 1800-1810) and another son 10-16 (b. 1794-1800)
  • In the 1830 census Zelotes and his wife are shown as ages 50-60 (born 1760-70) with a daughter, age 15-20 (born 1810-15).

From the 1810 and 1830 year spans, we can infer that Zelotus was likely b. between 1765 and 1770.

He is perhaps too young to be a son of the Reuben Prentis, b. c. 1765, who also appears in the 1800 Washington Co., NY census, but he might be a brother. (See article on Reuben Prentis.)

Zelotus might also be a brother to Pierce Prentice who appears in the 1800 Washington Co., NY census for whom no parents have been identified. (See article on Pierce Prentice.)
