    Robert J. Prentice, M.D., 1944-2007

    GALESBURG - Dr. Robert J. Prentice was born at Fort Benning, Ga., on July 29, 1944, to Robert J. Poblocki and Jeanne M. (Pesche) Poblocki. He passed away Aug. 19, 2007, in a place he enjoyed in the state of Colorado.

    Dr. Prentice is survived by his father, Robert J. Poblocki of Galesburg; four siblings, Leo (Linda) Prentice OD of Darien, Ill., Catherine (Paul) Plath of Kingwood, Texas, Terese (Paul) Plecnik of Fremont, Calif., and Paula (Thomas) Siegel of Elmwood, Ill. In addition he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Thomas R. Siegel of Monmouth, Ill., Karl F. Siegel of Elmwood, Ill., and Mary T. Siegel of Elmwood, Ill., all of whom he was especially fond. He is also survived by a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition, he is survived by his dear friends Alfie and Margaret Morey, Dr. William Crisman and Linda Rowley.

    Dr. Prentice was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne M. Poblocki, who passed away April 14, 2003, and his nephew, Jonathan E. Siegel, who passed away June 21, 2003. In addition he was preceded in death by all of his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

    He was reared on a farm in McHenry County, Ill., and attended parochial schools. After high school he attended Loyola University in Chicago and was accepted into Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. After completing medical school he was commissioned as a captain in the United States Army. He requested he be placed in the airborne division. He became a paratrooper and was invited to join the Green Berets, which he proudly did. He served a year in Vietnam at Bung Tau, a Green Beret fire base. He received numerous awards, among them the Bronze Star. Upon returning from Vietnam he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery, receiving the distinction, Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He then settled in Galesburg, Ill., and accepted a position with the Galesburg Clinic where he practiced for 27 years. He was on staff at OSF St. Mary, Cottage, Community Medical Center and Kewanee Hospital.

    When not practicing as a doctor, Robert enjoyed crop farming as well as animal husbandry. Horseback riding was a favorite pastime as was tennis, playing chess and flying his airplane. Dr. Prentice will be remembered for his skills as a physician and a farmer, his kindness, generosity, helpfulness and his straightforward, honest communication style. He will be missed by many. Funeral arrangements will be private. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Robert is survived by his wife, Margie Prentice and his five minor children, Larissa (age 17), Cecilia (age 12), Peggy (age 11), Suzie (age 9), and Robbie (age 6), all of Cameron, Ill. He is also survived by his three older children, Jeannette Chernin of Joliet, Ill., and Colette (Brian) Bullock and Bob (Ann) Gendron of Chicago, Ill. Robert was the grandfather of four boys, Hunter Chernin and George, Jeffrey and Jacques Bullock, all living in the Chicago area. The previous list of dear friends did not include his friend and faithful nurse of 25 years, Carol (Warrick) White and her husband Bud, or his longtime friends Hershel and Alice Statham.

    GALESBURG - The death of Dr. Robert J. Prentice, who was facing charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, was confirmed Saturday by the Warren County state's attorney. "All I can tell you is that I was made aware Thursday that he is deceased," Algren told The Register-Mail by telephone. He said the death occurred Aug. 19 in Colorado. "You know as much as I do at this point," he said.

    Prentice was due to stand trial in Warren County in October, Algren said. A pre-trial conference was scheduled for Sept. 19 and the jury trial was to begin Oct. 9. Prentice, 62, 1795 270th Ave., Alexis, was charged in May with two felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The abuse was alleged to have taken place in March and April 2004 against a female between the ages of 13 and 17. The charges carried a potential sentence of three to seven years and a fine of up to $25,000.

    LAWTON — Police say an 11-year-old boy is dead and four others are injured after their vehicle hit an ice patch, striking a guardrail and rolling over at least once. A Lawton police spokesman says the pickup truck on Monday morning was traveling north on Interstate 44 near Lawton when the vehicle hit an icy spot on a bridge. The spokesman says the driver then lost control of the truck and hit a guardrail.

    The child was ejected from the truck through a side window. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy’s mother, Gail Prentice, was driving the vehicle and was taken to a Lawton hospital, police reported. Three other passengers, Kendal Patterson, 21, MacKenzie Benson, 19, and a 3-year-old unidentified boy, also were taken to the hospital, police reported. They did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, police reported.

    Mason J-E Prentice was born to Eugene David and Gail Elaine (Parsons) Prentice on September 19, 2003 at Fort Hood, TX and departed this life in Lawton, OK on February 16, 2015 at the age of 11 years, 4 months and 28 days.

    Mason spent the first 8 years of his life in Killeen, TX, until moving to Walters, OK, in the summer of 2011. He attended Walters Elementary until starting the Fall 2014 semester at St. Mary’s Catholic School. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lawton and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kirby, TX. Mason enjoyed skateboarding, playing Pokemon, loved Classic Cars and could identify them and tell you about them. In the San Antonio area he loved bicycle rides, movies, zoos, museums and the “Riverwalk.”

    Survivors include his father, Gene Prentice of Kirby, TX; his mother, Gail Prentice of Walters; 2 sisters, Morgan Parsons-LeBarre and Mackenzie Benson both of Walters; his paternal grandmother (father's mother), Pat Prentice of Chicago, IL; his maternal grandmother, Pat Parsons of Walters; his paternal grandfather, Leo Prentice and wife Linda of Brothertown, WI; a paternal great grandmother, Jeanne Mitchell of Crystal Lake, IL; his nieces and nephew, Heaven and Heyden Sias, and Kiersten Landis; 2 aunts, Rene Parsons of Walters, Valerie Doggett and husband Cliff of San Antonio, TX; other relatives and many friends.

    He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ernest Parsons; and his aunt, Anna Prentice.

    Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Lawton, Friday, February 20 at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Joseph Ross Officiating with interment in the Walters Cemetery. A Wake will be held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel in Walters, Thursday evening, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Donations can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 611 SW A Ave., Lawton, OK 73501.
