Who are Richard Prentice's Parents?

The 1920 census shows Richard living with with his widowed mother Lutie Prentice (b. c. 1892, PA) in the Perry, Wyoming Co., NY, household of her parents, Fred Rauf (b. c. 1865, NY) and his wife, Mary E. (b. c. 1866, NY). Since Richard was b. c. 1913, Lutie would have been about 21 when he was born.

Lutie [Rauf] Prentice apparently married again. She appears in the 1925 NY State Census as Luttie n. Eustace, wife of George J. Eustace, b. c. 1885 in Canada. In 1925 they were living in Gainesville, Wyoming Co., NY.

Also shown in that 1925 census was another child of Lutie, Clarence Prentice, b. c. 1911 in the "United States," probably PA where Ricard was b. 2 years later in 1913.

Neither Clarence Prentice, Lutie/Luttie nor George Eustace appear in the SSDI.

Finally, the 1900 census for Otto, Cattaraugus Co., NY, and the 1910 census for Bradford, McKean Co., PA, (where Richard was living in 1940) shows the family of Ruben C. Prentice (b. Jan 1871, NY), his wife, Nancy C. (b. May 1873, PA), and children:

  1. Clarence Prentice, b. Mar 1891, PA. In the 1910 census Clarence is living next door with his wife, Carla, b. c. 1891, NY.
  2. William Prentice, b. Oct 1892, PA.
  3. Ruben C, Prentice, b. c. 1893, PA. (per 1910 census)
  4. Mable Prentice, b. Mar 1896, PA.
  5. Ralph Leroy Prentice, b. Oct 1897, PA, and d. 1989 per Ancestry.com . He m. 1st Lillian Claire, b. 19 Nov 1902, NY, and d. 1985, Buffalo, Erie Co., NY. She was the dau. of James Sanford Claire (1863-1928) and Eleanora Gleason (1867-1927). Children:
    1. Robert Prentice, b. c. 1920, NY. 1930 in Buffalo, Erie Co., NY.
    2. Ralph Leroy Prentice Jr., b. 21 Oct 1926, NY, and d. 1985. He m. Bette Madeline Politicus. She was b. 7 Aug 1926, Buffalo, Erie Co., NY, and d. 23 May 2002, Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. Children:
      1. (son) Prentice. He m. Sharon Sherk and had 2 sons.
      2. (dau.) Prentice. She m. and had a daughter.
      3. Marylou Prentice, b. 21 Jul 1949, Buffalo, Erie Co., NY, and d. 4 Dec 2012, Ft. Erie, Ontario, Canada. She m. Edwin Murray Mcgregor, b. 28 Jun 1947, Bethany, Ontario, and d. 26 May 2012, Ft. Erie. He was the son of Donald A. Mcgregor (1915-1966) and Beatrice Jane Smith (1920-2002). They had 2 sons and 1 daughter.
      4. Carol Ann Prectice, b. 21 Sep 1957.

      Ralph m. 2nd Virginia (1916-1989).

  6. George Prentice, b. c. 1902, PA.

Since Richard's mother, Lutie, was b. c. 1892, that suggests Richard's father was b. c. 1892, but that date would not fit him into the family of Ruben and Nancy. That location, however, suggests that the 1871 Ruben might be related to Richard's father.

Investigation is continuing.
