1. William M. Prentice was b. c. 1835 [738]. Census: 1850, in Evans, Erie, NY [295]. He appears in the 1870 census in Fairfield, Sauk Co., MI, and in the 1880 census in Brant, Erie Co., NY.
In 1906 he was admitted to the Hampton, VA, Roseburg Branch, of the U. S. National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, 1866-1938. His official record at U. S. National Homes etc. shows he enlisted 10 Dec 1861 in Brant, NY, as a Pvt. in Co. E of the 10th NY Cavalry, reinlisted as a Corporal on 18 Dec 1863 in Morrenton(?), VA, in the same unit, and was discharged14 Jul 1865 at Clouds Milla, VA, the reason listed as "Close of War." It also showed a military disability, "partial (illegible)".
He married Mary, b. c. 1832, VT. She appears in the 1870 census, but does not appear in the household in the 1880 census. However, his widowed mother, Permelia Prentice, is living in the household in 1880. Children:
- Clara Prentice, b. Oct 1867, WI, and d. 1902, IA. 1880 census in Brant, Erie, NY.
She m. William Eleazer Otis c. 1888. He was b. 11 Sep[ 1867, Forest, Winnebago Co., IA, and d. 27 Mar 1953,

We had initially believed that William was the son of William Prentice and Parmalia Stanley who are #106 in our John3 Prentice eBook. However, we located a record showing that their son, William, was b. c. Mar 1832 and d. 11 May 1847, age 15 years, 2 mos., 11 days and that he is bur. in Brant Cem., Brant, NY, per John Casall, email, 4 Sep 2010.
Investigation is continuing.
