Richard Prentice of Tombland, Norwich, Norfolk, England

Richard Prentice of Tombland, Norwich, Norfolk, England
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Winter 2009 and Revised 13 Oct 2009

1. Richard Prentice was b. c. 1590 at an unknown location, but perhaps in, or near, Norwich, Norfolk, England. We do not have a death date and place for Richard, and it is not yet known whether he accompanied his wife, Elizabeth Stratton to America and settled in Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA.

He m. Elizabeth Stratton on 13 Jul 1609 in Podrington, Bedfordshire, England. She was b. 11 Sep 1594 in Tombland, Norwich, Norfolk, England, and d. 28 Jul 1674 in Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts, USA. They had 1 or more children, including

  1. Anne Prentice, b. 29 Oct 1609 in Podrington, Bedfordshire, England. We have no further information about whether she emigrated to Roxbury, MA, with her mother and whether she married and had children. An Ancestor Chart for Anne can be found at Ancestry.com .

Elizabeth, about 20 years later, married as her 2nd husband, Robert Williams in 1628, perhaps in Norwich, England. They settled in Roxbury, MA, where Elizabeth died in 1674 per Ancestry.com .

Elizabeth's 2nd marriage in 1628 seems to imply that Richard Prentice died before that date. His daughter, Anne, b. 1609, would have been 19 in 1628 and, if living, may by then have been married.

Who are Richard Prentice's Parents?

It is not yet known whether Richard Prentice is related to Valentine Prentice, the only other known Prentice who settled in Roxbury, MA and died there c. 1633.
