1. Capt. William Prentice, Master Mariner was likely b. c. 1790-1800 at an unknown location. In 1834, we was in Howra, India with his wife when she died.

As noted, the record identifies the Presidency as Bengal. British India was divided into three Presidencies:

  1. Bombay, which covered the west and north of the country, including what is now Pakistan;
  2. Bengal, which covered the east of the country and included Burma and what is now Bangladesh, and
  3. Madras, which covered the southern portion of India.

The main cities of the Presidencies were Bombay, Calcutta and Madras, respectively.
