New Jersey 1895 Census

New Jersey 1895 Census
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Winter 2007 and Revised 7 Dec 2007

New Jersey State Census, 1895.

At first blush, the New Jersey State Census of 1895 may look like any other. You’ll find ancestors that lived there in 1895 sure enough, but it may surprise you to see who else you might find. Many immigrants from Europe arrived in New York, then settled in nearby New Jersey; some for a short time, others forever. 1895 was close to being the peak of European immigration. And this census serves as a substitute for the lost 1890 U.S. Census. Search over 1.5 million names in all New Jersey counties – you may find someone unexpectedly.
