He m. Catherine Phelps Williams on 12 Apr 1843 at Hartford, Wethersfield, CT. She was b. 5 Apr 1822, Weathersfield, Windsor Co., VT, and d. 16 Dec 1867 in Oregon, Dane Co., WI. She was the dau. of Joseph Root Williams and Polly Sherwin. Ancestor Charts for Catherine can be found at Ancestry.com and Ancestry1.com .

John and Catherine appear in the 1850 and 1860 census in the town of Oregon, Dane Co., WI where he is a farmer. John appears as a widower in the 1900 census in Charles City, Floyd Co., IA, living with the family of his daughter Helen.Children per 1850 and 1860 census and Ancestry.com:
