We found the information about Thomas Prentice, #2, in Ancestry.com and have augmented it with census information:

1. James Prentice was b. c. 1811 in Scotland. He first appears in the 1841 census in Dunscore, Dumfriesshire. He may have d. before 1851 as he does not appear in the 1851 census with his family

He m. Ann, b. c. 1807, Keir, Dumfriesshire. She appears in the 1851 census in Tynron, Dumfriesshire with her children:

  1. Mary Prentice, b. c. 1835, Dumfriesshire. At home in Dunscore in 1841. Not home in 1851.

2. Thomas Prentice was b. c. 1838 in Kirkmahoe, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. At h ome in Tynron, Dumfriesshire in 1851. He appears in the 1901 census in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, as a retired Police Sergeant, with his wife and family.

He m. Eliza, b. c. 1838, Balmaclellan, Kirkandbrightshire, Scotland. Children:

  1. Margaret Prentice, b. c. 1865, Kilninver, Argyleshire. At home in Glasgow in 1901.
  2. David Prentice, b. c. 1874, Bothwell, Lanarkshire. At home in Glasgow in 1901.
  3. Samuel J. W. Prentice b. c. 1879, Cambuslang, Lanarkshire. At home in Glasgow in 1901.

Also living in the 1901 household was a Grand Daughter, Jane Prentice, b. c. 1897, Airdrie, Lanarkshire. The identity of her parents was not given.
