Update of 8 Jul 2011: James Prentice is #3ix in our Fall 2011 article entitled John Prentice of Greenbock, Renfrew, Scotland . That article now replaces this article.
1. James Prentice was b. c. 1836, Brashead, Lanarkshire. He appears in the 1861 census in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, with his wife and family.
He m. Helen, b. c. 1834, Drumelzier, Peeblesshire. Known children:
- James Prentice, b. c. 1860, Greenock, Renfrewshire. At home in Hamilton in 1861.
We did not locate any James Prentice living in Brashead or Hamilton in the 1841 census. Neither did the IGI show any James b. in Brashead or Hamilton.
However, we did locate a James Prentice who was b. c. 1838 in Hamilton where James was living in 1861. The only identification given for his parents was a Mrs. Prentice, b. c. 1801 in Dalkeith, living in the same 1861 Hamilton household as was James.
