We are seeking information about the family of Ellen J. Prentice of Fenton and Colesville, Broome Co., NY. Here is what we have so far:

475. Ellen J. Prentice was b. 10 Feb 1851, in Fenton, Broome, NY [1059] and d. 6 Oct 1919, in Colesville, Broome, NY [1060]. Burial in Chenango V. Cem., Fenton, Broome, NY.

She married Henry Gurnsey/Guernsey. Born, 6 Aug 1836, NY, as were his parents. Died, 23 Jun 1917, NY. Henry does not appear in the 1850 or 1860 census, nor does a Gurnsey/Guernsey family appear in the 1830 or 1840 Fenton, Broome Co. census.

Ellen and Henry first appear in tjhe 1870 census in Kirkwood, Broome Co., NY, where Ellen's name is incorrectly entered as "Emily." The 1880 census in Fenton, Broome Co., NY. In the 1900 census they are living in Colesville, Broome Co., NY.

  1. Julia Gurnsey, b. c. 1868, NY. At home in 1870 and 1880 census.
  2. James Gurnsey, b. c. 1872, NY. At home in 1880 census. Not in 1900 census.

She married George Lee Rivers, 25 Jun 1907, in Fenton, Broome, NY. Born, 10 Jan 1887, in Beldon, NY [682]. Died, 9 Jun 1965, in Sanitaria Spr., Broome, NY. Children:

  1. Robert Lee Rivers., b. 26 Nov 1912, in Hillcrest, Broome Co., NY [682]. He m. Margaret Pashley, 22 Apr 1934. They had 1 or more children, including Richard E. Rivers.
