1. William Prentice was b. c. 1828 in Pilton, Northamptonshire, England. He appears in the 1861 census with his wife. They later appear in the 1881 census in Gadby, Leicestershire. Not in 1891 and later census.
He m. Elizabeth, b. c. 1820, Cotterstock, Northamptonshire. No children are shown in the 1861 and 1881 census.
Living with them in the 1881 census is a nephew, George R. Dowdney, b. c. 1859, Horne Hill, Surrey, and Emma J. Freeman, a sister in law, b. c. 1831, Newport, Isle of Wight, Hampshire.
Neither the IGI nor census records show any other Prentice b. in Pilton, Northamptonshire.
However, the 1841 Pilton shows the following family:
William Prentice, b. c. 1796, Northamptonshire and in 1841 living in Pilton, Northamptonshire, with his wife, Maria, b. c. 1801, Northamptonshire, and children:
- John Prentice, b.c. 1826, Northamptonshire and at home in 1841 in Pilton.
- Susanna Prentice, b. c. 1826, Northamptonshire and at home in 1841 in Pilton.
