1. William Prentice was b. c. 1854 in England, as were both of his parents. He emigrated to the United States at some date before 1875 when his son was born in IA. He appears in the 1880 census in Bellair, Appanoose Co., IA as a Coal Miner with his wife and family.
He m. Annetta, b. c. 1857, IL. Her father was b. in Illinois and her mother in OH. Children:
- William L. Prentice, b. c. 1875, IA. Not in 1900 or 1920 census.
- Eodina Prentice, dau., b. c. 1876, IA.
- Cornelius, b. c. 1879, IA. Not in 1900 or 1920 census.
William does not appear in the 1900 census.
All we know for now is that his parents were born in England. However, William Prentice was such a common name that there is no present way to identify his parents. He may have emigrated to the United States without his parents since the 1880 IA census does not show both a father and mother born in England.
