In reviewing the 1841 census in England, as well as the IGI, we found the following Prentices associated with the town of East Grinstead, Sussex, England :
1. John Prentice, b. c. 1670-1680, m. Ann Sadd on 4 May 1798, East Grinstead, Sussex. No children are shown for them in the IGI.
2. John Prentice, b. c. 1771 at a county other than Sussex, appears in the 1841 census in East Grinstead, Sussex, as a Cow Dealer, with his wife, Ann, b. c. 1769, at a county other than Sussex. Children:
- (perhaps) Ann Prentice, b. c. 1790-1802. She m. William Wells on 23 Apr 1820 East Grinstead, Sussex.
He was b. c. 1801, Sussex (per 1841 census). Children per 1841 census:
- Mary Wells, b. c. 1826,
- Obediah Wells, b. c. 1831, East Grinstead Sussex
- (probably) Susannah Prentice, chr. 17 Sep 1802, East Grinstead, Sussex, dau. of John and Anne Prentice.
3. Sarah Prentice, b. c.1776-1786, m. Thomas Chandler on 7 Aug 1804, East Grinstead, Sussex. No children are shown for them in the IGI. She may, or may not, be the Sarah Chandler shown in the 1841 census in Sutton, Sussex, as b. c. 1776, Sussex, with her husband, Thomas Chandler, b. c. 1776, Sussex.
