1. John Prentiss was b. c. 1847 in NY. He appears in the 1870 census in Finnimore, Grant Co., WI, and as "J. J. Prentice" in the 1880 census in Enosburg, Franklin Co., VT.
He m. Ellen/Ella Sanderson who was b. c. 1847, Milton, VT. Children shown in the 1870 census and in the 1880 census in Finnimore as "E. A. Prentice."

- Ethel Prentiss, b. c. 1875, VT. At home in 1880.
2. Albert Martan Prentiss, b. c. 1866, Milton, VT, and d. 25 Nov 1918 in Burlington, Chittenden Co., NY, at the Mary Fletcher Hospital. At home in 1880. Not in 1900 or 1910 census. He was then divorced, and a Station Master. His Vermont Death Record relates his cause of death as follows:
- "Homicide By cutting with knife pending investigation by State Authorities."
The name of Albert's wife is not presently known, nor is it yet known whether they had any children.
He may be related to Orpha Jane Prentiss of Burlington, VT who lived only 2 doors away from his family in the 1870 census in Finnimore, Grant Co., WI.
He might also be the John Prentiss, b. c. 1847, VT, shown in the 1860 census in Montpelier, Washington Co., VT, son of Edward H . Prentiss (b. c. 1809, VT) and Laura H. (b. c. 1810, CT).
